Frequently Asked Questions

Snacks

We will have snack every day in the afternoon

A snack calendar can be found on our website, and in your child's folder.

Snack items are provided by the GSRP program, so there is no need to worry about sending in items for an individual or class snack. Children are given a snack break to refuel and be ready for more learning. Nutritious options are provided by and approved through the program.

We WILL NOT SERVE sweets or treats unless it is your child's birthday or a holiday party.

*Students are welcome to bring a water bottle that does not spill if tipped over. Please only fill with water! Water bottles can be brought back and forth daily, or your child will be asked to take them home on Fridays to be washed.

Brithday Treats

Feel free to bring a creative brithday snack, a regular snack, or a sweet treat - your choice!

Summer birthdays will be celebrated in May and June!

Daily Communication

A home/school folder will be sent home every day. This folder will contain important work that your child has completed or needs to complete, school updates/flyers, a monthly calendar, and a note pocket for safely bringing notes/money to and from school. This is where Mrs. Powell will check for transportation notes, lunch money, book orders, Santa shop money, communication notes - questions/comments, etc.

Please empty your child's folder every night and have a conversation with them about their work at school. These can be great conversation starters for the dinner table! It is important to the learning process that your child receive feedback from you about their work, and know that you are involved and value their time at school.

Please have your child return the folder each day. Part of their morning routine is to place the folder where it belongs in the classroom. This is good for developing routines and responsibility!

Toys & Things

Children are asked to keep toys and personal belongings home unless it relates to a classroom project/activitiy. Keeping toys at home minimizes distraction and prevents beloved items from being lost, stolen, or damaged.

Birthday & Party Invites

If you would like to send home invites during the school day, please be mindful of our young students' friendships and feelings. If your child has an invite for the whole class, they may place the invites in student mailboxes during a convenient time in our day.

If your child is only inviting a select few students, please put them in the money/notes pocket of your child's folder and Mrs. Powell will get them in the student folders at the end of the day. This is done discreetly when the children are at recess and they typically don't even see the invite until they get home and check their folder with parents.

This helps prevent any hurt feelings, and promotes positive frienships and interactions! Thank you for being considerate of others when planning a party or event for your child!
